The Lalande de Pomerol appellation
Lalande-de-Pomerol is an appellation to the north-east of Libourne. It enjoys a mild and humid temperate oceanic climate. The vineyard covers an area of 1144 hectares on a plateau sloping from east to west towards the Isle river. There are two main types of soil : brown leached, gravel and pebbles in the commune of Néac, and brown gravel in the commune of Lalande-de-Pomerol. The production, which amounts to 55,000 hectolitres, is dedicated to red wines. The main grape varieties are Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and some Malbec. The wines can be kept for 5 to 10 years.
