The appellation blaye – Côtes de Bordeaux

The Blaye – Côtes de Bordeaux appellation extends over 41 communes in the north of the Gironde department on the right bank of the estuary. Covering an area of 6,500 hectares, the annual production reaches 320,000 hectoliters of red wines and 15,000 hectoliters of white wines. With a temperate oceanic climate, the vines are planted on three main types of soil : clay-limestone, clay-gravel and silica-clay. The classic Bordeaux grape varieties are present : Cabernet (Sauvignon and Franc), Merlot and Malbec for the reds and Sauvignon (white and grey), Semillon and Muscadelle for the whites. The wines of Blayais can be kept for 3 to 10 years.
