Château Aillan

Appellation : Saint-Estèphe

Vintages : 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021

The Château Aillan occupies a privileged position on the large plateau of the commune of Saint-Estèphe, with its limestone and stony subsoil. This 11-hectare vineyard, wonderfully exposed and planted with noble grape varieties, receives the most attentive care and benefits from sophisticated growing methods. Thus, due to the nature of its stony soil, its excellent grape varieties, the meticulous care given to the vines and to the vineyard, the Château produces bouquety and distinguished wines that are also rich in tannins that blend into a great harmony.

The opinion of our oenologists

The wine presents a beautiful red colour with an intense robe. It is crisp and open with a nice aromatic return of tasty and mellow red fruits. It can be drunk easily and will evolve with grace.

The Saint-Estèphe appellation

Saint-Estèphe is the northernmost communal appellation of the Haut-Médoc. It extends over a 7 km strip on the left bank of the Gironde estuary. With a surface area of 1200 hectares, the annual production of 65 000 hectolitres is dedicated to red wines. The gravelly, stony and sandy clay soils allow the vines to take deep root. The main grape varieties of Saint-Estèphe are Cabernet (Franc and Sauvignon), Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carmenère. The wines of the appellation can belong to three different classifications : “Grand Cru Classés”, “Cru Bourgeois” or “Cru Artisan”. They can be kept for 5 to 10 years (15 years and more for the most prestigious crus).
